The bathing lake and sauna were the unique attraction of this lovely place – we adored it, beautiful, mysterious, rustic luxury… Our morning and evening ritual was to fire up the sauna, get gloriously hot, then dive into the lake – heaven! What a fantastic weekend away in this magical setting. Memories have been made, particularly in the sauna, lake swimming and canoeing, and the perfect games room has provided hours of fun. The snowdrops are stunning, and can only imagine how much more beautiful the grounds will be in the summer months. Thank you Kenneth for your hospitality and for sharing this special place.

Thank you for providing such a wonderful venue for a group of old university friends to reunite and celebrate the arrival of the New Year. We loved having delicious home-cooked meals in the kitchen, playing loads of games and exploring the stunning Ravenbridge grounds. We are now uninterested in houses that do not come with their own lake and sauna! Walks across both the Lake District and the Pennines were really beautiful, and we would love to come back here to explore the area more – and help plant trees.

Cool lake! We enjoyed swimming in the lake, then warming up in the sauna then jumping in again. The stage was very fun and we enjoyed performing plays. The trampoline was very bouncy! There are lots of good places to walk.

There really is no place like Ravenbridge… We were delighted with the lake, and we spent a fair amount of time enjoying the silky water. The children loved the trampoline and pool table as well. Our eldest was particularly impressed with your book collection and spent the week glued to your books on treehouses, woodworking, sculpture, science and art. We loved all the cool teapots you have on display around the house. Even though it was ultra rainy compared to London, the mud quality was excellent!! Thank you so much Kenneth for giving us gloves and wellies. Thank you for being such a wonderful host, Kenneth, we hope to return to Ravenbridge again!

If you’re excited by the pictures of Ravenbridge Mill, rest assured that the reality is (somehow) even more magnificent! My oldest friend and I brought our families together – from opposite ends of the UK – to spend a week here together. We swam in the lake, and enjoyed the beautiful sauna, which looks out over the water. With the blessing of our kind host Kenneth, the children picked apples and plums from the trees to eat as they played. And there’s a family-sized trampoline that my 2yr old will never forgive us for leaving behind! The house is full of character and incredibly spacious. As another reviewer commented, it’s very well arranged so that different families can coexist extremely comfortably without ever feeling on top of one another. And the ground floor bedroom is a big plus for anyone travelling with older relatives or those with limited mobility. We cooked up a storm in the double height kitchen, which is lovingly designed and splendidly equipped. The river rushes through behind the house making for the best washing up view of all time 🙂 The sound is so calming… I’m sure it was instrumental in our little boy sleeping 12 hours straight (now that’s what I call a holiday!) We recommend Ravenbridge Mill in the highest terms. Huge thanks to Kenneth for such a warm welcome, great humour and for sharing your bonfire & baked potatoes with us! We’ll be back.

…Highlights: too many to mention really, but toasting marshmallows on the firepit, playing in the lake, sitting on the bench with the view over the lake all come to mind. What a place! We stayed for my husband’s 40th for a week. We were bowled over by the sheer beauty of the house and its grounds, and were particularly enamoured with the lake and sauna. The house is fab inside – lots of rooms to explore and play hide and seek in, and loads of bathrooms too. There are so many things for the kids to do, but I can totally imagine coming back to this house with a bunch of friends too. Kenneth was unobtrusive but very helpful. He even gave us some freshly picked beetroot which was fab! Highly recommended.

Our favourite things: swimming in the lake, boating, our family sports day, pool, badminton, acting on the stage, toasting marshmallows, exploring, walking, picking blackcurrants, river walking, playing the piano, hanging up the car keys and escaping real life for a while. Beautiful spacious house for the ten of us and the dog. We have loved playing on the piano, the walks around the lake and going in the canoes have been great fun. This is a wonderful tranquil place, and we will all leave here with lovely memories. The favourite for everyone was the lake – to swim in natural water was exhilarating, and then to go into the sauna was just fantastic. The children loved the wood, and the dens – it was a great place for them to play and use their imagination. The trampoline and canoes also kept them well entertained. The house had all we needed and enough space for us all.. Kenneth was an excellent host and very helpful if we needed anything.

The house, a sensitively-converted and -extended historic mill, is comfortable, welcoming and well-equipped. The grounds are miraculous: a stream flowing past the house, a lake with canoes and wild swimming, huge quantities of trees, growing and mature, a trampoline, an old-fashioned horse-drawn caravan for children to play in, overlooking the lake, a badminton net, a pool table, and - greatest luxury of them all - a sauna. The sauna is a charmingly eco-friendly structure, built of logs and mortar, with a green roof. Its wood-burning stove heats the interior to 65c or so over the course of half an hour or so, during which you can sit and look out at the lake and relax. Then when you're too hot the lake is a few steps away, bracingly cold in April when we were there. We found it unbelievably lovely - totally relaxing and totally mindful. I don't know when I've last felt so calm and happy. The surrounding area is stunning - views out to the hills of the Lakes, hard-grazed sheep hills rising above the house, and charming Penrith a beautiful, unbusy 25 minute drive away. The beauty of the countryside is heightened by the fact that it's a working, lived-in landscape, in striking contrast to the nearby Lakes which, for all their beauty, are in many places overwhelmed by tourism. Our experience of the stay was enhanced yet further by the charming welcome from Kenneth, our host. He was exemplary in his helpful attentiveness on the rare occasions when we needed anything, and without his ever intruding on our family time we had some wonderful conversations with him and immensely enjoyed getting to know him. He is a remarkable, fascinating person.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Set in 21 acres with a large lake miles away from anyone, Ravenbridge is a delightful place for a family holiday. A stunning old building comprisin six bedrooms (four double, two twin), four shower rooms (two with baths), two lounges, separate games room with pool table. Wood burning sauna. Trampoline and badminton net, plus kayaks for the lake too. There was never a time when anyone was bored! Birds flitting in and out of the garden; bats roosting above the west wing bedroom. The phone signal isn't good, but there is wifi so you can stay connected. Ample parking and gated garden with two separate seating areas. Kitchen well equipped with fridge/freezer and under counter fridge, rangemaster oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier.  We had arranged an online delivery which stocked us up well. Some of the bedrooms don't have curtains (ours had a skylight right over the bed). No issue for me, but my OH likes things very dark. Kenneth, the host is lovely and very accommodating. After reading his book and wathcing You Tube videos, we now regret not asking him to play for us whilst we were there. Will definitely do the next time we go - and we will, most definitely be back!

We were lucky with the weather and spent the 1st 3 days within the house and grounds because there was so much to do there. We loved swimming and canoeing in the lake and made use of the sauna. The walk around the lake is lovely and ideal for walking the dogs. The children loved the trampoline,  games room and the dressing up boxes and we all enjoyed playing pool and badminton.   The house is in such a peaceful location that it was easy to switch off from the outside world. Kenneth was lovely to chat to and we enjoyed the flapjacks he made us. The house itself is amazing, but don't expect all mod cons and sleek lines, it's a very quirky old building with uneven floors, stone staircase etc but if you like that sort of thing you will love it! We definitely did!! Really hope we can get back there one day!
